Carrot Sowing Program

Carrot juice

In the year 2002, Coopagrimar R.L. started a project in processing carrots for juice in order to consolidate a market for the carrot production in the locality of Alfaro Ruiz. From there on a group of farmers began an active participation of harvesting through an established program that allowed them to provide raw materials for the cooperatives agro-industrial plant.

As part of the project there has been different services provided to the farmers of the area, such as technical assistance, encouragement on proper agricultural practices, education and research on new seeds and agricultural products that can help with the efficiency, production and increase of income.

This project has had the participation of farmers from different regions of the Alfaro Ruiz locality like Zarcero, Tapezco, La Brisa, San Luis, Palmira, Pueblo Nuevo, Zapote, La Palmita y Guadalupe. The main variety of carrots produced is the Bagnor, nonetheless there are other varieties available that have good color and Brix characteristics, like the Sirkana and Esperanza.

Up to date there are between 200 and 400 quintals of product being processed every week for the making of carrot juice, and that quantity is estimated to augment because we are searching for new markets for exportation and also for national consumption.
